Hello My Name Is Child of The One True King

I was driving the other day and “Hello My Name Is” by Matthew West came on the radio, and I had the sudden feeling to sing as loud as I can. If you haven’t heard this song before, here is a link to the YouTube video: https://youtu.be/ZuJWQzjfU3o

This song has so much meaning behind it and I want to dig a little deeper into it with you!

Let’s start with the opening line:

“Hello my name is regret”

What a powerful line! Am I right!? Whether we are 10 years old or 85 years old, we will have at least one thing in our lives that we regret doing or not doing. It is a fact of life. As an imperfect human being, we will do things that are ungodly and will regret doing them. However, we are not meant to dwell in these regrets. We are meant to rise upon and ask for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 states, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Another line of the song states:

“Hello my name is defeat”

Sometimes at the end of the day, I just want to lay in bed and cry. I feel so extremely defeated, like I will not be able to ever get out of bed again. This lasts for a bit until I remember that Jesus is my Savior and He is so freaking awesome! “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us,” Romans 8:37. God is with you always and will always have your back, and although it is sometimes hard to comprehend this in real time. It is important to always try and go back to this.

The refrain of this songs speaks on the most joyous and amazing parts of being a Christian.

“I’ve been saved, I’ve been changed, and I have been set free”

As we learn and grow in our relationship with God, these moments of regret and defeat seem to become fewer and farther apart. I have found that the more I rely on God and more I trust in Him, the less regret and defeated I feel. My sins have been paid for and I do not have the need to hold them as my own. Jesus was sent to take them from me and to relieve me of my pains.

The next time you feel regret or defeated, remember that God is on your side and that you are His Child!
